Sunrise

Have you heard of an upside down house existing anywhere? You can find a lot of these attractions in many parts of the world today. However, the credit of building an entire community of upside-down louses should go to develop Norman Johnson. He acquired land in central-western Broward County in 1961 to build an entire township of upside down houses.

Originally named Sunset Village, this name became a controversy because the main occupants of the area, the retirees felt it exhibited a defeatist attitude. Hence, they changed the name to Sunrise. It was a remote area at that point in time. It saw development in later years with the population crossing 93,000 in 2016.

The ideal place for retirees to settle down for the final leg of their journey, Sunrise is spread over an area of 18.29 square miles. The upside down house concept is a novelty with most of the houses having furnished accommodation and an upside down automobile in the carport. It gives you the feeling of walking upside down on the ceiling of the house.

This novel concept attracted a lot of tourists to this village. Hence, one can call tourism as the main source of income for the residents of this unique town. One of the cleanest areas in Broward County, Sunrise Golf Village does not have any kind of air pollution. This is one of the few cities to be under the complete control of its citizens.

The city started seeing concrete development somewhere around the early 1970s. The shopping and entertainment center encompassing an area of more than 2.3 million square feet is the main attraction of this city. You have a large number of elementary and middle schools in this locality. There is no shortage of food courts and restaurants in this city. This city is certainly a nice place to settle down in life.
